Getting started
Master Pathways without the headache
Pathways is Toastmasters’ educational program — a step-by-step online curriculum for public speaking and leadership. The system (known as Base Camp) can look intimidating at first, but your day-to-day workflow is simple. Here is exactly how to navigate it.
Pathways is for members only. You will get access after you join Woodland Hills Toastmasters and become a Toastmasters International member. If you are still visiting as a guest, start on the First 30 days page — then come back here once you have joined.
How to log in directly
Skip the main Toastmasters website and go straight to your personal learning dashboard:
Log into your Pathways dashboard
Choose your path
Once you are logged in, you will be prompted to take a short assessment quiz. It asks about your personal and professional goals — such as managing teams, overcoming anxiety, or persuasive speaking — and recommends three paths for you.
Tip
You do not have to take the recommendation. There are 11 different paths available. Innovative Planning and Presentation Mastery are excellent, popular choices for beginners.
Understanding the levels
Every path has 5 levels that progress from beginner to advanced. You complete them in order.
- Level 1: Mastering Fundamentals — 3 speech projects, starting with your Ice Breaker.
- Level 2: Learning Your Style — Discover your communication or leadership preferences.
- Level 3: Increasing Knowledge — Slightly longer speeches; practice vocal variety or body language.
- Level 4: Building Skills — Managing difficult audiences, doing Q&A sessions.
- Level 5: Demonstrating Expertise — High-profile speeches or leading a club project.
How to use a project
When you are ready to work on a speech, find your path inside Base Camp and click Open Curriculum. Beside your next project, click Activate, then Launch. A new window opens with your interactive textbook.
Follow this exact 3-step loop for every project:
- Before the speech: Read through the screens. You must take the Assess Your Skills — Before quiz. If you skip this, the system will not let you complete the project later.
- Give the speech: Write your speech, download or print the evaluation resource PDF from the portal, give it to your assigned evaluator at a Woodland Hills Toastmasters meeting, and deliver your talk.
- After the speech: Go back into that same pop-up window. Skip to the very end and take the Assess Your Skills — After quiz.
Once both quizzes are completed, the system awards you a green checkmark and your next project unlocks.
